Workshop practice

Key points: ECU checksum correction
- ECU checksum correction: do the identification and power steps before any write.
- Two identical reads define a usable original. One mismatched dump is scrap.
- ecuflashfiles.com is originals; ecufilemarket.com is Stage 1 and deletes.
Bosch Tricore, MDG1, Delphi and Continental blocks use checksums over map regions. A file edited in WinOLS without correction, or a tool protocol that skips CSA, bricks the ECU at first key-on. Let KESS3, Autotuner, Flex or PCMFlash calculate checksums for that protocol. If the tool warns that checksum is not supported, do not write.
Where original files fit
Keep the matching virgin dump. Search ecuflashfiles.com by software number. Do not use a ‘similar engine’ file.
Original dumps sold on ecuflashfiles.com are for restore, comparison and workshop use. Stage 1 and delete work belongs on ecufilemarket.com. In some regions DPF off, EGR off, OPF / GPF off, SCR / AdBlue and even Stage 1 may be used only on off-road and competition cars. Confirm the law where the vehicle is registered.
FAQ: ECU checksum correction
Why does ECU checksum correction matter before a write?
Most bricks come from skipped identification, weak PSU voltage, or checksum left off — not from the map itself.
Should I keep a clone or a virgin file?
Virgin + immo alignment, or a full clone, but not a mix. See the clone vs virgin guide on this site.
Where are Stage 1 files?
ecufilemarket.com after you upload the original. This site is the restore library.
